Solar heating systems last for more than 50 years, and in the meantime the hotel will attract environmentally-conscious guests," says Roger Huber, the founder of Swiss Solar Tech Ltd.

"By solar-heating their water, Best Western Inn - Kelowna can prevent 90 tons of greenhouse gasses that would otherwise have gone into the atmosphere from burning natural gas."

The system is designed to heat more than 98 per cent of the water for the hotel¹s 90,000 litre swimming pool, two hot tubs, and 146 guest room's water supply during the five summer months. In winter the solar system can cover nearly 80 per cent of hot water heating.
Best Western Inn - Kelowna is "greening" its roofline. The hotel's owner, Greg Salloum, says for years he'd thought about alternatives to heating water with a fossil fuel and decided to go with the same ingredient that attract guests from all over the world to the Okanagan.

This line of thought and a lot of hard work have resulted in one of the largest solar-thermal installations in Canada. The south side of the hotel complex now features 100 solar panels and they are already soaking up the sun¹s year-round heat with amazing efficiency.
